The real gain: open a right, then close it
Around the Montout and along the T3 tram line, a share of the housing is let by the night. Handing a set of keys to someone stepping off the tram late in the evening, then collecting them again, eats more evenings than people expect. A temporary code removes that round trip and is revoked on departure without touching the door.
The second gain is the record. Most models keep a time-stamped log of openings and of the credentials used. For a landlord here who sends a cleaner in between stays, or for a business unit on the avenue Jean-Jaurès shared between several people, that information has practical value.
The third is the end of lost duplicates. A code is cancelled, a fob is disabled, a stolen phone drops off the account. A key mislaid during an afternoon at the parc de Miribel-Jonage, by contrast, means changing the cylinder — and every other cylinder that shared the same secret.
What the door has to accept before the electronics
There are three families and they do not commit you to the same thing. A motor fitted over the existing cylinder comes off without a trace; a connected cylinder replaces the barrel and keeps the lock; a full smart lock replaces the mechanism. On a shielded flat door in a recent block by the Grand Large, the first is often the only one that leaves the cover plate and the linkage alone.
Power deserves a word out on the Décines plain. A service door facing north, a side gate on the boundary, an entrance with no porch: January cold shortens battery life well before the date on the maker's sheet. Keep a mechanical way in as backup, and a set of keys outside the property — with someone nearby rather than in the letterbox.
Then the network. Remote control needs a bridge wired to your router, and a thick-walled village house in the centre will not carry Wi-Fi as far as the garage door at the back of the yard. Coverage is checked before buying, not after. In a block of flats, anything affecting the outer face of the leaf falls under the co-ownership rules.
How does this service work?
