The uses that hold up here
The first is letting. Around the campuses a great many homes change hands on fixed dates, in summer and again at the start of term. A code is created for the length of the tenancy and revoked on the day of departure, with no key handed over, no spare left in circulation and no visit between two tenants. Inventories follow one another without anyone waiting for a keyring.
The second concerns houses set in grounds. Letting someone in briefly to collect the post, or a gardener, or a tradesman, saves handing over the full set. That counts for a good deal when the same key opens the side gate on the boundary, the service door at the back and the attached garage.
The third is the audit trail. Most models keep a timestamped log of openings. The information is useful to a landlord, but it also describes when the occupants are at home: in a let property the people concerned must be told plainly, and the history must be erasable. That is settled at installation, not at the first disagreement.
The limits a large plot creates
Range first. Bluetooth means being close by, and remote control needs a bridge connected to the network. On a deep plot at Les Sources, with the router at the far end of the house, or behind the thick walls of a house in the old core, the signal does not always cross what you assume it will.
Power next. These locks run on batteries, and the cold of winter mornings on the plateau shortens their life noticeably, especially on a mechanism mounted outdoors. Check before buying what the manufacturer provides as a fallback: a mechanical key barrel, an external cell, a contact on the face. A side gate mechanism, out in the wind and the rain, draws on its batteries harder than a lock sheltered by a porch.
Resistance last. A connected motor fitted to an ordinary lock does nothing for how the door stands up to a forced entry. Convenience and mechanical resistance are separate subjects, and on a walled property in Écully the weak link is usually a secondary way in rather than the front door.
